The Barn
We are delighted with how quickly the Barn has become a thriving social space, with many of you coming along to enjoy the lunches and Café at the Barn events. In addition, we’ve held informative gardening tips discussions, and last week Tessa Bull held a very successful yoga for gardeners session. We already have some ideas for 2022: a willow weaving workshop, and a bee safari, for example. We’re keen to hear from you if you have any ideas for other events, and also please do send us any feedback on the events held so far – all comments and suggestions welcome.
Winter Warmer
Our popular annual event will be held on Sunday 21st November, 12.00 – 3.00pm. There will be warming soup, bread and cake, plus mulled cider, lots of seasonal preserves, cakes and goodies for sale. Please let us know on info@shepherdshillallotments.co.uk if you can donate a cake or perhaps you have some preserves made from this year’s harvest.
Plot 15
Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped with gardening the communal plot. We still need volunteers to help with weeding, pruning, clearing, tidying and watering in May, June and July. In case you missed it in previous newsletters - we are asking people to sign up to join a small team just one month in the year. If you can help, please let us know on info@shepherdshillallotments.co.uk
Trading Shed
The trading shed will be open this Sunday 31st October, 7th November, and then fortnightly until Potato weekend on 26th/27th February (except 2nd January). We are currently unable to get hold of any enviromesh, but have been told that old net curtains are a good (or maybe even better…?) substitute.
Please DO NOT dump plastic pots outside the trading shed.
Bonfires
A number of allotment sites and Councils are now banning bonfires altogether, and we would be interested in hearing plot holders’ views on this topic at our AGM next month. In the meantime, do try and keep the use of bonfires to an absolute minimum, composting as much as possible, and consider creating a dead hedge (see the guidance on how to do this on our website). Haringey Council’s guidance on bonfires and how to minimise environmental and social impact is also on the website. For further information see the National Allotment Society guidance.
